Lesson Learned
Written By: Diana L. Brewer

What is this life that they speak of? One full of joy and happiness, some say it is fools dream at most for nothing ever stays blissful forever. Problems arise, Women and men give up everything for the dream of something else be it life, another who can awaken them again or something... anything that will make them feel young and alive again. The way that they used to feel when they saw the value of the people around them and their words, before they started taking one another for granted. Women and men betrayed by the ones they trusted sink themselves into a dream world hoping that one day it will be theirs though all the time building up thick walls that can not be penetrated by anyone from the outside.

We are taught from the time of our birth to believe in happily ever after. Prince Charming and Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and her Prince, waking her with a simple kiss giving her a life that dreams are made of. We set out into the world our hearts and minds flooded by this dream.

Every once in awhile someone's dream comes true.

What of the others? They are forced to come to terms with their reality that things are only good at the beginning then turn lonely. They are no longer as important to the other as they once were and as time goes on they soon become invisible. Loneliness engulfs them to the point of insanity till there is nothing more left for them. Hiding in the shadows they slowly fade away until there is nothing left of them. Not even the once silent whisper that you would hear when all was quiet. For what is worse then being alone when you have someone next to you?

How much do we have to suffer? Why can't people open their eyes and see what is in front of them before it is too late? As humans we take one another for granted, believing the one we have will stay no matter what we dish out to them. Love conquers all they say? Therefore we take that as permission to ignore one another but in the end love can not grow in the shadows. Like a plant it needs to be fed, and taken care of or it will wither and die.

Then one day they wake up to find that the ties that bind are rapidly fraying. Unable to do anything about them they try all they can to hold tight to them but in most cases it is too late for the rope is too weak, at this point it can't withstand the extra weight and so it quickly and quietly breaks, sending everything that was once upon it crashing to the ground, shattering into a million unrecognizable pieces that can not be put back together.

Is this all that life is about? For what is life without love, other then a cold, lonely existence. What is worse is an existence where you are bound to love someone who can not share that love in return for they fear what can be because of the past. Everywhere they look they see the bitter reminder of the pain that was caused to them and without any rational thought they push away those that love them. Afraid of once again feeling the bitter stab of betrayal not realizing that the whole time they are betraying themselves.

So unknowingly they push away those who might be able to help them once again see the beauty of life and love. Condemning themselves to a live in darkness.

In the end which one would you like to be? The happily ever after or the one who winds up is bitter and lonely?

If you love someone tell them. Show them in your actions how special they are to you, before it is too late and you find your rope is about to snap. Never try to change the one you love, but love them for who you know them to be. For if you change them they will no longer be them but another in the shell of the person you once adored. If you build thick walls leave a secret door for someone to sneak inside of so they might be able to help you find comfort within your walls.

Most of all Don't be afraid of what might be, fear what won't be if you let the chance pass you by.

--Once in your lifetime, for a brief moment all your dreams come true--
